Vecuronium (Norcuron)

  1. Class
    Non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent
  2. Description
Derivative of Pancuronium, provides muscle relaxation for ET intubation
  3. Mechanism of Action
    • Competes with Aceytlcholine for cholinergic receptor sites on the post-junctional membrane.
    • Result in paralysis of muscle fibers served by the occupied neuromuscular junction.
    • Does not cause initial depolarization wave like Succinylcholine
  4. Onset of Action
    • Onset: <1min
    • Peak: 3-5min
    • Duration: 25-40min
    • Half-life: 30-80min
  5. Indications
    Facilitate paralysis for ET Intubation
  6. Contraindications
    Known hypersensitivity
  7. Precautions
    • Persons skilled in ET Intubation
    • Emergency resuscitation medications available
    • Paralysis occurs in 1min and lasts 30min
