Lecture:muscles that cross the elbow

  1. Triceps Brachii
Origin: long head: infraglenoid tubercle of scapula; lateral head: posterior shaft of humerus; medial head: posterior humeral shaft distal to radial groove

Insertion: by common tendon into the olecranon process of ulna

    • Action: POWERFUL FOREARM EXTENSOR
    • Image Upload 2
  2. Anconeus
    Origin: lateral epicondyle of humerus

Insertion: lateral aspect of olecranon process of ulna

    • Action: controls ulnar abduction during forarm pronation
    • Image Upload 4
  3. Bicep Brachii
Origin: short hea: coracoid process; long head: supragelnoid cavity; tendon of long head runs within capsule and into intertubercular sulcus of humerus

Insertion: by common tendon into radial tuberosity

    • ACTION: flexes elbow joint and supinates forearm
    • Image Upload 6
  4. Brachialis
origin: front of distal humerus; embraces insertion of deltoid muscle

    • insertion: coronoid process of ulna and capsule of elbow joint
    • Image Upload 8
    • action: MAJOR FOREARM FLEXOR
  5. Brachioradialis
Origin: lateral supracondylar ridge at distal end of humerus

Insertion: base of styloid process of radius

    • action: synergist in forearm flexion
