What are the function of the pelvic floor?
Composed of: Levator Ani, Coccygeus
Functions:
1. Seals the inferior outlet of the pelvis
2, supports pelvic organs
3. lifts pelvix floor to help release feces
4. Resists increased intra-abdominal pressure
Levator Ani
Muscles of the pelvic floor
origin:
extensive liear origin inside pelcis from pubis to ischial spine
Insertion:
inner surface of coccyx, levator ani or opposite side, and in part into the structures that penetrate it
Action:
supports and maintains position of pelvic viscera (resists downward thrust), lifts the anam canal during pooping

action:
supports pelvic viscera

Origin:
ischial rami
Insertion
: midline central tendon of perineum; some fibers into vaginal wall in femals
Action:
supports pelvic organs
External Urethral Sphincter

Origin:
isciopubuc rami
Insertion:
midline raphe
Action:
constricts urethra
Ischiocavernosus
Muscles of the SUPERFICIAL Perineal Space
origin:
ischial tuberosities
insertion:
crus of the corpova cavernose of main penis or female clitoris
action:
retards venous drainage and maintains erection of the penis or clitoris
Bulbospongiosus
Muscles of the SUPERFICIAL Perineal Space
Origin:
central tendon of perineum and midline raphe of penis
Insertion:
anteriorly into coropora cavernosa of penis or clitoris
action:
empties maile urethra; assists in errection of penis or clitoris
Superficial Transverse perioneal muscles
Muscles of the SUPERFICIAL Perineal Space
Origin:
ischial tuberosity
Insertion:
central tendon of perineum
action:
stabilizes and strengthens midline tendon of perineum
