Potent diuretic that inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the kidneys and causes venous dilation
Mechanism of Action
Loop diuretic that inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in kidneys causes venous dilation within 5 minutes. Causes a reduction of preload, decreasing cardiac workload. The 2nd effect is diuresis
Onset of Action
Onset: 5-10 min (vasodilation) ; 5-30 min (diuresis)
Peak: 30 min (vasodilation) ; 20-60 min (diuresis)
