a urologic abnormality in which the urethral meatus is located on the ventral surface of the penis anywhere from the corona to the perineum.

an acute inflammation of the testis.

tightness of the foreskin resulting in the inability to pull it forward from a retracted position.

surgical removal of the prostate gland through a perineal approach.

phimosis
a constriction of the uncircumcised foreskin around the head of the penis making retraction difficult.

prostate cancer
a malignant tumor of the prostate gland.

prostate-specific antigen (PSA)
a glycoprotein found only in the epithelial cells of the prostate that, when elevated, indicates a prostatic pathologic condition but not necessarily cancer of the prostate.

prostatic acid phosphatase
an isoenzyme of prostatic tissue that, when elevated, indicates prostatic cancer.

prostatitis
acute or chronic inflammation of the prostate gland, usually as a result of infection.

radical prostatectomy
surgical removal of the entire prostate gland, seminal vesicles, and part of the bladder neck (ampulla).

retropubic prostatectomy
removal of the prostate gland through a low abdominal incision without entry into the bladder.

spermatocele
a firm, sperm-containing, painless cyst of the epididymis that may be visible with transillumination.

suprapubic resection
removal of the prostate gland through a low prostatectomy abdominal incision that cuts through the bladder to the anterior aspect of the prostate.

testicular torsion
twisting of the spermatic cord that supplies blood to the testes and epididymis.

transurethral incision of the prostate
a surgical procedure in which transurethral incisions or slits are made into prostatic tissue to relieve obstruction.

transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)
a surgical procedure involving the removal of prostate tissue with the use of a resectoscope inserted through the urethra.

varicocele
a dilation of the veins that drain the testes.

vasectomy
bilateral surgical ligation or resection of the vas deferens performed for the purpose of sterilization.
