  1. Hemoglobin (Hgb)
    • Male: 13-18
    • Female: 12-16

    Amount of Hemoglobin/100 mL of blood
  2. Hematocrit (Hct)
    • Male: 42-52 %
    • Female: 37-47 %

    Percentage of RBC per fluid volume of blood
  3. RBC
    • Male: 4.6-6.2
    • Female: 4.2-5.4

    Determines actual number of cells in relation to volume
  4. WBC
    5,000-10,000

    Amount and maturity of WBC elements
  5. Platelet
    150,000 - 400,000

    Used to diagnose hemorrhagic diseases, thrombocytopenia
  6. PT (prothrombin time)
    • 9.5 to 12 seconds
    • Coumadin Therapy: 1.5-2 times normal

    • Detects coagulation disorders
    • Monitors effectiveness of Coumadin Therapy
  7. PTT (partial thromboplastin time)
    • 20 - 39 sec
    • Heparin Therapy: 1.5-2.5 times normal

    • Detects coagulation disorders
    • Monitors effectiveness of Heparin therapy

    Anticoagulant Therapy: Coumadin

    Used to detect malnutrition
