    Provides elemental Calcium in the form of cation (Ca2+) required for many physiological activities
  3. Mechanism of Action
    Replaces calcium in cases of Hypocalcemia. Increases cardiac contractility

  5. Indications
    Acute Hyperkalemia, Acute Hypocalcemia, Calcium Channel Blocker overdose, Abdominal muscle spasm associated w/ spider bites and Portugese Man-of-War stings, Elevated T-Waves.
  6. Contraindications
    patients recieving digitalis
  7. Precautions
    • IV should be flushed between Calcium Chloride and Sodium Bicarb admin.
    • Extravasation may cause tissue necrosis.
  8. Side Effects
    • Dysrhythmias (Bradycardia & Asystole)
    • Hypotension
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Syncope
  9. Adult Dose
    2-4mg/kg of 10% solution may be repeated @ 10min intervals
  10. Pedi Dose
    5-7mg/kg of 10% solution (High blood serum level = higher pedi dose)
  11. Max Dose
    • Adult: 2-4mg/kg
    • Pedi: don't worry about them
