Pediatric Meds

  1. Acetaminophen
    • Tylenol
    • antipyretic, nonopioid analgesics (safe and effective for pain and fever reduction)
    • SE: hepatic failure, hepatotoxicity
    • PO: (1-12 YOA) 10-15 mg/kg/dose Q 4-6 hrs
  2. Ibuprofen
    • Motrin, Advil
    • antipyretic, nonopioid analgesics, NSAIDs
    • SE: GI bleeding, TEN, n&v, constipation
    • 5-10 mg/kg/dose Q 6-8 hrs
  3. Ampicillin
    • anti-infective (strep, staph, e-coli)
    • bactericidal action: spectrum is broader than penicillin.
    • SE: diarrhea, rashes, n&v
    • 100-200 mg/kg/24 hr ÷ Q6 hr
  4. Amoxicillin
    • anti-infective (skin infections, resp tract infections, GU tract infections)
    • SE: seizures, diarrhea, rashes, n/v, uticaria
  5. Clindamycin
    • anti-infective
    • pseudo-membranous colitis, diarrhea, nausea
    • PO: 10-30 mg/kg/24 hr
  6. mentronidazole
    • Flagyl (IV)
    • anti-infective
    • SE: seizures, Steven-Johnson syndrome, dizzy, h/a
  7. Gentamicin
    • aminoglycosides
    • therapeutic trough levels <2mg/L
    • SE: ataxia, vertigo, ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity
    • IM, IV: 7.5 mg/kg/24hrs divided by 8 hrs
  8. Prednisolone
    • steroidal immunosuppressive, intermediate acting corticosteroid, anti-inflammatory
    • SE: peptic ulceration, thromboembolism
  9. Reglan
    • metohkloepramide
    • antimetic, decrease n/v
  10. Methylprenisolone
    • Solumedrol (IV push)
    • anti-inflammatory, steroidal immunosuppresant, corticosteroid
    • SE: HTN, i/c intracranial pressure in children
