Uses: moderate to severe pain
- ADE: CNS depression, sedation, cardiac changes, dizzy, itchy, constipation, nausea, urinary retention, blur, diplopia, miosis, nystagmus.

Uses: Moderate pain - alternative to Codeine
- ADE: CNS depression, sedation, cardiac changes, dizzy, itchy, constipation, nausea, urinary retention, blur, diplopia, miosis, nystagmus.

- -used under co-mgmt of surgery & trauma to the eye.

Codeine
- Pro-drug, 10% metabolized to morphine.
- Uses: moderate pain, anti-tussive agents.
- -combined with APAP or ASA for analgesic synergy.
- ADE: CNS depression, rash, dizzy, itchy, constipation, nausea, blur, diplopia.
- -Dependence can occur

Fentanyl
(Fentanyl, remifentanil, sufentanil, alfentanil)
- More potent than marphine
- Uses: preoperative/anesthetic agents, severe pain
- ADE: CNS depression, sedation, cardiac changes, dizzy, itchy, constipation, nausea, urinary retention, blur, diplopia, miosis, nystagmus.
- -Dependence can occur

Tramadol
MOA: Binds to Mu-opiate receptors in the CNS & cause inhibition of ascending pain pathways.
Uses: Moderate to severe chronic pain. (PO only)
- ADE: HA, sedation, dizzy, itchy, constipation.
- -doses adjusted for renal/hepatic dysfunction

ASA (Asprin)
Uses: Mild/moderate pain, fever reducer, reduces inflammation, reduces blood clotting, uricosuric agent.

APAP, Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
MOA: Inhibits synthesis of prostoglandins in the CNS and Peripherally blockspain impulse generation, inhibits hypothalamic heat-regulating center.
Uses: mild-moderate pain, reduces fever. (no anti-inflammatory effects)
- ADE: Metabolized hepatically (overdose can cause hepatotoxicity-most common for accidental toxicity)
