Exocrine Secretion
secretions that leave the body, secretions onto external surface of body (sweat, sebrum, cerumen, saliva, digestive secretions)
Endocrine Secretion
secretions into surround fluid or into the bloodstream
Stimulus
Any detectable change in the environment
Hormone
any substance secreted by a group of cells that have a
tropic effect
(changes in physiology) on a distant cell
Target cells
any cell that has receptors for a specific hormone
Membrane receptor
intergral membrane proteins on surface of target cell. When a hormone binds to receptor it causes a signal using a 2nd messanger system (G-protein)
Intracellular receptor
a protein in cytoplasm in a target cell. When a hormone binds it alters protein synthesis of a target cell
Intranuclear receptor
proteins in the nucleus of a target cell. When a hormone binds it alters protein synthesis of a target cell
Signal transduction
converting a signal into a phisological response
