LV enlarges; Contractility stays the same
caused by:
Ischemia
inflammation
toxins
HTN, valve disorders contribute
Dilated CMP:
Systolic or Diastolic?
Affects systolic function
results from damaged heart muscle fibers
LV contractility decreases
Cardiac output decreases
Sympathetic NS stimualated to increase HR and contractility
Kidneys Kick in:
Retain
:
sodium
water
Maintains cardiac output
vasoconstriction
renin-angiotensin system
heart fails when these mechanisms no longer compensate
Detrimental Dilation
LV dilation occurs
Atrial also dilates
More work to pump blood==
results in CARDIOMEGALY
BLOOD POOLS==EMBOLI
