    Because they can become caught in the beaters and break the mixer.

    No, because it doesn't have the correct amount of padding to protect your hands from the heat of the kettle or baking pan. Also, a towel is too large and it could catch on fire if it touched the hot burners.

    One hand should be holding the lid in place to insure the lid will not pop off when the blender is turned on.
  22. What should you do immediately after handling raw fish, meat, or poultry and why?
    Wash your hands with soap and warm water to get rid of the bacteria that came from the raw foods, and prevent contamination of other foods that will be handled next.
  23. When beginning food preparation, what is the first thing that you should do before working with the food? Why?
    Wash your hands with hot water and soap in order to clean off any germs and bacteria that may contaminate the food.
  24. Why should beaters be inserted into the mixer before plugging it in?
    The mixer may already be in the on position and you can get your fingers caught in the beaters when trying to insert them, causing damage to your fingers and the mixer.
  25. When preparing a meal, is it okay to use the same knife for slicing vegetables that was just used to trim raw meat? Why or why not?
    No, because there is bacteria on the knife from the raw meat that will contaminate the vegetables. The vegetables are not cooked to as high of a temperature as the meat, so the bacteria would not be killed and may cause food poisoning.
