Science Final 35-1

  1. What are the levels of organization in a multicellular organism?
    • Cells
    • Tissues(epitheilia, connective, nervous, and muscle)
    • Organs
    • Organ system
  2. What does the epithilial tissue do?
supports the body and connects its parts
  3. What does the conective tissue do?
includes glands and tissues that cover interior and exterior body surfaces
  4. What does teh nervous tissue do?
along with bones, enables the body to move
  5. What does the muscle tissue do?
transmits nerve impulses through the body
  6. Circulatory system(4 things)
brings oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to cells; fights infection; removes cell wastes; helps to regulate temperature
  7. Digestive system(3 things)
converts food into simpler molecuels that can be used by the cells of the body; absorbs food; eliminates waste
  8. Endocrine system(2 things)
controls growth, development and etabolism; maintains homeostasis
  9. Excretory system(1 thing)
eliminates waste products form the body in ways that maintain homeostasis
  10. Integumentary system(3 things)
serves as a barrier gainst infection and injury; helps to reuglate temperature; provides protection agains ultraviolet radiation from the sun
  11. Lymphatic/immune system(2 things)
helps protect the body from disease; collects fluid lost from blood vessels and returs it to the circulartory system
  12. Muscular system(2 things)
works with the skeletal system to produce voluntary movement; helps to circulate blood and move food throught he digestive system
  13. Nervous system(1 thing)
recognizes and coordinates the body's response to changes in its internal and external environments
  14. Reproductive system(2 things)
Produces reporductive cells; in females, nurtures and protects developing embryo
  15. Respiratory system(1 thing)
provides oxygen needed for cellular respirations and emoves excess carbon dioxide from the body
  16. Skeletal system(5 things)
supports the body; protects the internal organs; allows movement; stores mineral reserves; provides a site for blood cell formation
