  1. simple squamous epithelium
  2. simple squamous epithelium
  3. simple cuboidal epithelium
  4. simple columnar epithelium

Tip: Dark band along apical edge= microvilli (increase surface area for absorption)
  5. pseudostratified columnar epithelium

Tip: All cells reach to basement layer, but not all reach apical layer. Nuclei @ varying distances from apical border. Falsley stratified. Indentations are called goblet cells, and they secrete mucous into lumen (open area). Notice banding--this is the microvilli that is found in columnar epithelial cells.
  6. keratinized stratified squamous epithelium

Tip: Can tell it is keratinized because of distinct layers. There are 5 OBVIOUS layers. Covers outer surfaces of body-- i.e. skin.
  7. Keratinized stratified squamous epithelium

    • a) corneum
    • b) lucidum
    • c) granulosum
    • d) spinosum
    • e) basal
  8. Keratinized Stratified Squamous Epithelium
  9. Transitional Epithelium

Tip: The circles are on the binucleated cells, which are characteristic of transitional epithelium. The test pointer will likely be right on a binucleated cells.
  10. Loose connective tissue

    • Tissue: Distinctive purple dots with fibers going in all different directions
  11. Dense regular connective tissue
  12. Dense irregular connective tissue
