Reflection
occurs when a wave strikes an object of surface and bounces off.
Refraction
bending of a wave as it moves from one medium to another
Diffraction
bending of a wave around an object
medium
matter that a wave passes through
Light Ray
narrow beam of light traveling in a straight line
Incident Ray
The ray of light that strikes a surface before reflection
Reflection Ray
the ray of light that strikes a wave after reflection
Law of Reflection
states that when a wave is reflected, the angle of incidence is equal to that of refleciton
Opaque
the characteristic of a material where it cannot be seen through
Translucent
when a material can be partially seen through
tansparent
when a material can be completely seen through.

Primary Pigment Colors
Magenta, Cyan, Yellow
Prism
a glass shape that can refract light, splitting the light.
Refracting Telescope
uses two convex lenses to gather light and form an image of a distant object.
Reflecting Telescope
uses a concave mirror to gather light from distant objects
Convex Lens
a lens that is thicker in the center than at the edges
Concave Mirror
a mirror where the edges are thicker than the middle
Convex Mirror
a mirror where the center is thicker than the edges
Plane Mirror
a mirror that is the same thickness all around with no curve
Focal Point
the point on the axis of a lens or mirror to which parallel rays of light converge or from which they appear to diverge after refraction or reflection
Focal Length
The distance between the center of a lens or curved mirror and its focus.
