CHAPTER 5.2

  1. THE PH SCALE : (POTENTIAL HYDROGEN)
IS A UNIT OF MEASUREMENT THAT INDICATES WHETHER A SUBSTANCE IS ACIDIC NUETRAL OR ALKALINE
  2. THE PH SCALE :
    • PH NUMBERS INDICATE THE AMOUNT OF ACIDD OR ALKALI IN A WATER BASED SOLUTION
    • ONLY SOLUTIONS CONTAINING WATER AND OR WHICH DISSOLVE IN WATER CAN HAVE ACIDIC OR ALKALINE NATURE
  3. THE PH SCALE :
A SOLUTION IS ACIDIC OR ALKALINE E DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF NEGATGIVE HYDROXIDE IONS OR POSITIVE HYDROGEN IONS IT CONTAINS
  4. THE PH SCALE : IONS
    • AN ION IS AN ATOM THAT HAS GAINED OR LOST ELECTRONS
    • IF A SOLUTION HAS MORE POSITIVE HYDROGEN IONS IT IS ACIDIC
    • IF A SOLUTION HAS MORE NEGATIVE IONS IT IS ALKALINE
    • WHEN A SOLUTION HAS AN EQUAL AMOUNT OF HYDROGEN AND HYDROXIDE IONS IT IS NEUTRAL
  5. THE PH SCALE : 0-6.99
    ACIDIC
  6. THE PH SCALE : 7
    NEUATRAL
  7. THE PH SCALE : 7.O1-14
    ALKALINE
  8. THE PH SCALE :
RANGES FROM THE NUMBER O-14 WITH NUMBERS LESS THAN 7 INDICATE ACID WHILE NUMBERS GREATER THAN INDICATE ALKALINE
  9. THE PH SCALE : LOGMARITHMITIC
WHICH MEANS EACH STEP OR NUMBER INCREASES BY MULTIPLES OF 10
  10. THE PH SCALE : TESING
    • THREE MEATHOD SOF TESTING ANY PRODUCT TO DETERMINE THE PH LEVEL INCLUDE PH NITRAZINE PAPER PH PENICIL OR A PH METER
    • THE ACID MANTLE THAT COATS THE SKIN AND HAIR CAN ALSO BE MEASURED WITH THESE
  11. THE PH SCALE : PH BALENCED
MEANS THE PH IS BALANCED AT A CERTAIN NUMBER NOT NESCICARILY 4.5-5.5
  12. THE PH SCALE : ACID BALENCED
BALANCED WITH A RANGE OF 4.5-5.5
  13. THE PH SCALE : AVERAGE RANGE OF PH FOR HAIR SKIN AND NAILS
    4.5-5.5
