  3. Cheyne stokes respirations
    a breathing pattern characterized by a period of apnea lasting 10-60 seconds, followed by gradually increasing depth and frequency ofr respirations
  4. Kussmaul's respirations
    rapid deep respirations caused by severe metabolic and CNS problems
  5. Central neurogenic hyperventilation
    hyperventilation caused by a lesion in the central nervous system, often characterized by rapid, deep, noisy repirations
  6. ataxic respirations
    poor respirations due to CNS damage causing ineffective thoracic muscular coordination
  7. Apneustic respirations
    Greathing characterized by prolonged inspiration unrelieved by expiration attempts. This is seen in pt c damage to the upper part of the pons
