Epidemiology
- Reservoir=animals
- Undercooked poultry
- 30% of diarrheas worldwide
- unpasteurized milk, contaminated water supplies
Pathogenesis
- Low infecting dose
- Move in association of with the cell's microtubule structure
- Assoc with Guillan Barre (type II hypersensitivity)
Manifestations
- 1-7 days after ingestion
- Fever and lowe abd pain
- Water diarrhea -> dysentery
- Self-limiting 3-5 days
- Diagnosis: isolation from stool, special medium
- Treatment: erythromycin, early in course
