the "Great Dionysian"

A festival that took place in Athens, Greece. It lasted five or six days in March.

- Polis virtue- applies to someone who gives his/her first loyalty to the state and sacrifices for the benefit of the state.
- Heroic virtue-applies to those who "follow their heart" or some higher power that they believe supersedes the law of the polis.

Themes of Greek Tragedy
- -humans facing powers which they cannot full understand or control and being destroyed by them
- -conflict between apollonian and dionysian, civic virtue conflicts with heroic virtue.
