  1. What is shock?
    Shock is the result of hypoperfusion to the cells of the body that causes organs and then organ systems to fail.

    • 1. Pump failure
    • 2. Decreased blood volume
    • 3. The blood vessels can dilate excessivley

    • 1. Cardiogenic

    • Multiple severe fractures
    • Abdominal or chest injury
    • Spinal injury
    • A severe infection
    • A major heart attack
    • Anaphylaxis

    Hypovolemic
  7. 3 signs and symptoms of decompensating shock
    • Falling blood pressure <90mm Systolic
    • Labored or irregular breathing
    • Ashen, mottled, or cyanotic skin
    • Thready or absent peripheral pulses
    • Dull eyes, dilated pupils
    • Poor urinary output
  8. General consideration for treating shock
    • 1. Supine / ABC
    • 2. Control external bleeding
    • 3.Splint broken bone or joints
    • 4. high flow oxygen / keep warm
    • 5. Elevate the legs 12"
