What is shock?
Shock is the result of hypoperfusion to the cells of the body that causes organs and then organ systems to fail.
Three causes of basic shock
1. Pump failure
2. Decreased blood volume
3. The blood vessels can dilate excessivley
4 types of shock
1. Cardiogenic
2. Neurogenic
3. Hypovolemic
4. Septic
3 noncardiovascular causes of shock
1. Respiratory
2. Anaphylactic
3. Psychogenic

What shock is the result of a thermal burn
Hypovolemic
3 signs and symptoms of decompensating shock
Falling blood pressure <90mm Systolic
Labored or irregular breathing
Ashen, mottled, or cyanotic skin
Thready or absent peripheral pulses
Dull eyes, dilated pupils
Poor urinary output
General consideration for treating shock
1. Supine / ABC
2. Control external bleeding
3.Splint broken bone or joints
4. high flow oxygen / keep warm
5. Elevate the legs 12"
