Tidewater/ Backcountry
Originally everyone in the Southern colonies lived in the Tidewater region. Then, however, richer colonists bought most of the farming land around the coast, forcing the poorer colonists into the Backcountry. The Backcountry was Native American land. People who lived in the Backcountry thought the government didn't care about them.

Tobacco and Rice in the Southern Colonies
Tobacco and Rice fields were massive, and therefore needed many workers to farm them. Slaves were used for this thankless task, spurring the development of slavery in the Southern Colonies.

Economy of the Southern Colonies
The southern colonies economy was based on farming and slavery. They had so many farms, and thier farms were so big, they used slaves to farm them. This gradually grew until nearly the entire economy relied on slavery.
