- Orthomyxovirus - Segmented RNA
- A and B major human strains
- Pathogenesis: replicates in upper respiratory tract, cell mediated reaction causes destruction
- Incubation: 1 - 2 days
- Symptoms: Dry cough, fever, headache, myalgia, muscle ache, chills
- resolves in a week, fatigue continues for several weeks
- Complications: Baterial superinfection (Strep, H. Inf, Staph), Reynaud's, Guillan-Barre
- Dx: Anti-hemagglutination
- Tx: Ostelmavir
- Prevention: Flumist, influenza vaccine (anti-H)

- Paramyxovirus (-) RNA Envelope
- H, N, F
- Three types
- 1. Acute Croup in young kids
- 2. Croupin small kids
- 3. Bronchitis/Pneumonia < 1
- 4. URI in older kids
- Dx: Clinical, serology, isolation
- Tx: Supportive

- Paramyxovirus - RNA (-)
- G, F
- Major cause of bronchiolitis in young kids
- Starts in URT -> LRT
- Kids with Th2 response have worst outsome
- Poor immunity for repeat infections
- Sx: Cought, wheezem respiratory distress 1-3 weeks
- dx: IF
- Tx: Supportive, ribavirin
- Prevention: Anti-F Ab

Adenovirus
- Adenovirus - DS DNA, Naked
- Persists in host for years - subclinical and latent
- Febrile illness of childhood
- Symtoms: Phayrngiconjuctival fever, pertusis like cough, conjunctivitis, cystitis, gastroenteritis
- Dx: Isolate virus
- Tx: supportive
- Prevention: enteric coated live vaccine
