'Chime' system comunication
1 chime- FA will call the cockpit as time permits.

PA and chimes inop- Pilot will use the NO SMOKING sign for one chime or two. For one chime, the sign will be turned OFF until the FA has reached the cockpit, then turned back on. For two chimes, the sign will be switched OFF then back ON.

The FA will press the cockpit call button and place the handset in-between the jumpseat and continue service.
The flight crew will try to call back the FA, with no answer. This should alert the flight crew that there is a problem.

Emergency communication between the cockpit and cabin
PA Inop- Pilot will ring the chimes in a continuous manor. More than three chimes will indicate that an emergency landing is imminent.
PA and Chimes Inop- Pilot will flash the NO SMOKING sign multiple times.
NO SMOKING sign Inop- Pilot will open the cockpit door and shout instructions.
