level of T5-T9 vertebrae

• - sunken sternum
• - (concave depression of the thoracic wall)
• - increased IUP on the chest during development
• - abnormal diaphragm position causing post. retraction
• - abnormal CT produciton

• - pigeon chest
• - protrusion of sternal angle and costal cartilage
• - more frequently affects boys

- caused by a double rib fracture that causes paradoxical movement during respiration

• - compression of structures exiting the thoracic inlet
• - eg. subclavian a. and v.
• - caused by cervical ribs, tumor, etc

- displacement of the costal cartlige from the sternum

- displacement of rib from costal cartilage

• - procedure to decrease thoracic volume (closure of persistant pleural space)
• - resection or replacement of ribs with an inward convexity device

• - Chronic inflammatory disease affecting joints of the axil skeleton
• - presents mostly with lower back pain
• - limits spinal range of motion
• - bilateral sacrolitis

- at level T3 and T4

• - inferior part of sternal body
• - location of proper hand position for CPR (compress 2 inches down at 100 compressions per minute)

- notch of the manubrium at T2 level

• -needle inserted in upward angle at the 9th IC space at the midaxillary line
• - used for removal of fluid fromt the thoracic cavity

apex: superior to medial 3rd or clavicle

superior lobe: 2 ICS

middle lobe(right lung): 4 ICS

inferior lobe: 6/7 ICS
