    • excessive thirst
    • occurs because of dehydration cause by polyuria
  15. Polyuria
    What and Why?
    • increased frequency of urination
    • caused by osmotic diuresis from excess glucose in the urine as a result Na, Cl and K are excreted and water loss is severe
  16. Polyphagia
    What and why?
    • excessive hunger
    • occurs b/c cells receive no glucose
  17. Chronic complications
    • Cataracts
    • Retinopathy/Blindness
    • Infections (gangrene)
    • Kidney Disease
    • arteriosclerosis
    • MI
    • valve disease
    • CVA
    • gastroparesis
    • erectile dysfunction
