Romanian Vocab (week one)

  1. Tanti
    informal title for a woman, similar to calling someone aunt
  2. Sărut mâna.
    I kiss your hand.

    Kids of any gender can address adults of any gender this way. Men can address women this way. And women can address grandfatherly men this way.

    may you grow up

    kind greeting of an adult to a child
  4. servus
    hello
  5. salut!
    greeting of one man to another of similar age
  6. noroc
    greeting meaning good luck
  7. Ce faci?
    What are you doing?

    (It is implied that you are talking about right now).
  8. Ce faci astăzi? (or)
    Ce faci azi?
    What are you doing today?
  9. Ce mai faci?
    How are you?
  10. faceți vs. faci
    both mean do, but faci is less formal.
  11. dumneavoastra
    formal form of you

    (can be f. or m, singular or plural)
  12. Cine sunteți?
    Who are you?
  13. De unde sunteți?
    Where are you from?
  14. Unde sunteți acum?
    Where are you now?
  15. Ce faceți în România?
    What are you doing in Romania?
  16. Sigur?
    Are you sure?

    Laurel is my wife.
  18. Iosua este soțul meu.
    Joshua is my husband.

    Gas is very expensive.

    Peanut butter is very expensive.
