STRUCTURAL ORGANIZATION OF THE BODY

  1. CELL
Fundametnal unit of all living things (animal or plant).
  2. SIMILARITY IN CELLS
Contain a gelatinous substance composed of Water, Protein, Sugar, Acids, Fats, various Minerals.
  3. CELL MEMBRANE
Surrounds & protects the cell, alsoregulates what passes into&out of the cell.
  4. NUCLEUS
The controlling structure of the cell.
  5. CHROMOSOMES
    Rod-like structures within the nucleus.
  6. GENES
    Chromosomes contain region.
  7. DNA (DeoxyboNucleic Acid)
The chemical each gene is composed of.
  8. RIBOSOMES
Small granules that help the cell make proteins.
  9. EGG & SPERM CELLS
    Each contains 23 chromosomes
  10. KARYOTYPE
Picture of chromosomes in the nucleus of a cell.
  11. CYTOPLASM
All the material that is outside the nucleus and yet contained within the cell membrane.
  12. MITOCHONDRIA
Small, sausage-shaped bodies. Structures in the cytoplasm in which foods are burned to release.
  13. CATABOLISM
Process of breaking down complex materials (foods) to form simpler substances & release energy.
  14. ANABOLISM
Process of building up complex materials (proteins) from simple materials.
  15. METABOLISM
Total of the chemical proocesses in a cell.
  16. ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM
Structure (canals) within the cytoplasm. Site in which large proteins are made from smaller protein pieces.
