Neglect-
The act of ommission rather than comission
Pattern of behavior, not just a one time act.
Has to be continuous
can be fatal
Neglect;
Failure to minimum standards-
parents are at least adhering to the minimum standard; Doing the best that they can
Non-organic Failure to Thrive:
Children not meeting expected milestones;but there are no physical reasons for it.
Example
: emotional neglect can even lead to death
Neglect vs. abuse (physical/sexual)
Reduced awereness; lack of physical signs, requirement for long term intervention, association with poverty
Potental for more severe and longer lasting consequences
