Antiviral Non HIV Drugs
- Acyclovir, Famvir, Valtrex, Denavir
- inhibit viral replications by interfering with viral nucleic acid synthesis in the cell
- indicated for patients with influenza A and B, herpers species, cytomegavirus

Acyclovir Sodium
- herpes virus drug
- interference with viral synthesis of DNA
- fakes out the virus in thinking it is a component needed for continued synthesis of the DNA chain
- indicated for HSV 1 & HSV 2, varicella zoster, epstein Barr virus
- contraindicated to patients with hypersensitivity, renal/hepatic disease
- can cause N&V, diarrhea, headache, tremors, lethargy, rash, pruritus, anemia, seizures, nephrotoxicity
- Probenecid (gout meds) decreases elimination of acyclovir which can cause nephrotoxicity
