Part of the brain. It maintains homeostasis by regulating the internal environment

Contains two sections posterior and anterior.

Posterior (Neurohypophysis)- horomones released here are made by the hypothalamus

Anterior (Adenohypophysis)- produces the hormones that it release

Contain axons of neurons that extend from the hypothalamus. Hormones are stored in and released from axons ending in the posterior pit. gland

Oxytocin- stimulates uterine contractions and mammary glands controlled by positive feedback

Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH)- promotes reabsorption of water in kidney tubules and is controlled by negative feedback
